A short introduction is in order I think.
My name is Ron van Sommeren, I live in Druten near Nijmegen, the Netherlands. 25 kilometers from the German border. Born december 25 1961. I studied electronic engineering at Eindhoven University, really hated 3 phase and energy systems classes back then. Worked as an embedded software engineer (www.philips.com : dvd-player and crypto-systems, www.asml.com : waffer steppers, www.alsi.com : laser cutters and www.stork.com : big textile inkjet printers) . Did a bit of German-Dutch translating for the Dutch pendant of the German C't computer magazine (http://www.fnl.nl/ct/).
Used to fly helicopters (Schlüter Heliboy 6.5cc and Grauperner Helimax 8,3cc). Last time I flew was way back in '91. Never flew fixed wing or electric.
14 years ago I started organizing an international electric fly-in (pictures) (http://home.hetnet.nl/~ronvans/) for my club www.rmvc-cumulus.nl . That's how I got involved with motor building, but never have built one myself. I'm more of a librarian who tells people where the information is.
I'm the 'owner' of two mailing lists
www.yahoogroups.com/group/lrk-torquemax , building brushless motors
www.yahoogroups.com/group/D-calc, about the e-flight 'Drive Calculator' software
and I'm co-moderator of the mailing list for the www.inter-ex.com (vids/pics) experimental, weird, funny, crazy RC models event, alternatingly held in Germany, the Netherlands and France, since '84:
www.yahoogroups.com/group/inter-ex
Diy motor building started in 2000, with the publication of several articles in the German Elektro Modell magazine. Christian Lucas (www.magnetmotor.de) had the idea, Ludwich Retzbach was the magazines editor and Emile Kuhfuss did the metalwork. You'll find the original articles, translated in English, at the bottom of this page:

I like to harrass about 50-60 fora/mailing list on the subject of do-it-yourself motors :D Not too often of course, only when there's interesting news.
And by the way, I'm 2m01 tall :)
